27 August 2025 - Number 1 heading south again, this crossing is continuing from yesterday, the herds draining out of the Lamai wedge and out of the Mara triangle in what we hope is not their final turn south. Good rain overnight might turn the southern herds around! Plenty of grass all the way south to Seronera! Well done Zebadia Mmbando!!

27/08/2025

26 August 2025 - Massive crossings all heading south with this crossing at Makutano captured by client Doran who is sailing his yacht south as well! Well done on a good stop Scott! Scott was guided by Zebadia Mmbando!

25 August 2025 - The front end of the migration and the substantial “Tenebo herds” are as far south as Four Seasons and have crossed Togoro plains, more rain around Seronera, perhaps a split in the herds this year with Mara River crossings still north to south! Happy days happy guiding 💪🏼

20/08/2025

20 August 2025 - Massive turn towards the south with herds crossing the Kitchwa Tembo road heading south, huge and continuous crossing between numbers 6 and 10 heading south with a high Mara River water level luckily slowly down the progress. Did the widespread rains turn the herds south early this year or will they head back to the Masai Mara this year? What is your guess?

19/08/2025

18 August 2025 - Makutano, heading south to north in BIGG numbers with our guide Zebadia Mmbando again right on the spot! Respect, distance and next level guiding has brought us to this point! Less is more and karma is there!

Our Story

At Great Migration Camps, we have drawn inspiration from the pioneering safari days of old to recreate an experience that gets you right into the very heart of the incredible bio-diversity that exists there in the Serengeti.

Born and raised during the wilder days of South Africa’s Kruger National Park, Carel Verhoef grew up at one with his natural surroundings, eventually becoming a safari guide and camp manager in east Africa for more than 10 years. His professional guiding career has taken him to many corners of the African continent including two years based in the Serengeti where he intimately learnt the history, terrain, wildlife and eco-systems of the region while understanding and documenting the science and rationale behind one of nature’s greatest events; the great wildebeest migration.

Carel knows better than anyone what will make your visit to east Africa extraordinary. Spend a few minutes in conversation and you’ll quickly realise he is a man of the bush, with a wealth of knowledge, experience and charisma to make your experience on safari with Great Migration Camps an unforgettable one.

Gifted with a love of travel, nature & the spirit of adventure since a young child, Sally Grierson, has always felt at home in the great outdoors. Born in Zimbabwe but raised in Cape Town, she trained as a physiotherapist and travelled extensively with her career, before returning to Africa and the tourism industry where she specialised in tourism marketing. If Carel can make your safari unforgettable, Sally is the one who makes it happen - ensuring all the details of your safari have been taken care of.
