Being owner operated…..
This last review really got me thinking.
It's a breeze to make guests happy for a night or two - maybe even three.
But when your average stay is six nights? Man, that's freaking tough. You've gotta be on point 24/7 - no mistakes, gotta pray the safari gods bless your guests with amazing sightings, the light is good and hope they love the food amd have a good nighta rest. So much is out of our control but we do control we do well.
We have consistently nailed 5 stars in every category from our long-term guests - and now we're at 66% repeat guests.
That's sayin' a lot for a. New camp!
I'm proud of the team we have put together.
They wake up at 4 AM to prep breakfast, deliver coffee and tea to the guests in their tents, and make sure the guide vehicles are ready to roll at sunrise.
After everyone heads out on their drives, we start cleaning, prepping lunch for the returners, prayin' again the safari gods are blessin' 'em with good light and sightings... then we prep for fireside chats, dinner, and nightcaps before doin' it all again the next day.
The payoff?
Reviews like the one below, smiles on our guests' faces, and watching our young team grow and level up.
I won't lie - it's tough. Sometimes I wanna throw my hands up and say "enough" when the geni breaks, the camp truck blows a tire, or a solar battery thatbwe just purchased dies, etc etc etc but then I take a deep breath, look out over the valley, and remember: nothing worthwhile is easy.
Camp ownership is a quality of life. You dont get rich financially but growth wise there no uni in the world tjat can teach you what I’ve learned in the last 2 years.
