Even if summiting Mount Kilimanjaro isn’t on your list, its foothills hold their own kind of magic. At Tanganyika Wilderness Camps' Kambi ya Tembo, a range of experiences, from guided walks to cultural encounters, serve up a different way to connect with this infamous landscape.

Sometimes, it’s good to remember the base tells a great story too!

Visual Design of the Week, Edition 4

At Singita Faru Faru, design doesn’t scream into its surroundings, it seems to whisper into them. Clean lines, open spaces, and juxtaposing the hardest material to create a softened palette. This all so as to allow the light and surroundings to take centre stage.

Understated, intentional, and quietly striking.

Visual Design Highlight of the Week, Edition Two:

Set against Mount Meru, LABA LABA 's Mama Simba is defined by its architectural openness - soaring thatched roofs, exposed timber beams and wide, unobstructed fronts that draw the landscape inward.

Grounded by warm materials and softened interiors, it becomes a natural point of pause and return just outside Arusha.

Stepping into local communities to see how people live, work, and sustain their livelihoods adds real depth to a journey. It offers a firsthand glimpse into traditions, skills, and daily life, and a context many never knew they were missing.

When a safari is thoughtfully planned and responsibly managed, its impact extends far beyond the guest experience by supporting local livelihoods, protecting wild spaces, and strengthening the wider web of people and ecosystems that allow these landscapes to thrive. Many initiatives exist, but a strong example is Singita 's community and conservation work, including its cultural experiences and community partnerships.

These are the moments and travel design choices that transform a trip into something far more meaningful.

Zanzibar’s snorkeling is so good because nature really showed off here.

Warm, clear Indian Ocean waters meet shallow coral reefs that sit close to shore, protected by fringing reefs and sandbanks. Add gentle currents, year-round tropical temperatures, and an abundance of colorful reef fish, and you get effortless underwater magic, even for beginners.

An anti-poaching observation post visit offers one of the most insightful perspectives on safari. It’s a reminder that conservation efforts aren’t abstract. They are people, patience, and presence.

Time spent learning how wildlife is protected adds depth and purpose to every sighting that follows.

At various destinations, food served straight from garden to table carries a distinct sense of place and personality. One place that does this exceptionally well is Gibb's Farm - Ngorongoro Crater - where guests can wander the gardens and see exactly where their dinner is grown.

To know Tanzania is not only to see its wildlife, but to recognise the human histories that have long coexisted with it.

The Maasai are often spoken about as symbols of Tanzania, but they are, first and foremost, a living people with a living culture. For centuries, they have upheld a way of life rooted in pastoralism, community, and an intimate understanding of seasonal rhythms. Cattle are central not only to livelihood, but to identity, social structure, and ceremony.

The Maasai have adapted over generations while fiercely protecting what matters, age-set traditions, oral history, and a deep relationship with the landscape.
