Ene is Marketing Manager, she travelled the country extensively herself, being impressed by the large number of wildlife in the north and remoteness and wild nature of the south. Mount Kilimanjaro rises to 5,895 metres (19,341 ft) and is the highest free-standing mountain in the world. Located just around 330 km from the Equator, Kilimanjaro is extraordinary not only because of its height, but also because of its incredible diversity of landscapes, vegetation and climate.

Tanzania is a true paradise for birdwatchers. More than 1,100 bird species have been recorded here, ranging from enormous birds of prey to tiny, brightly coloured bee-eaters.

Some fascinating birds include:

• Lilac-breasted Roller
One of the Serengeti’s most iconic birds, famous for its striking colours.

• Secretarybird
A very unusual bird of prey with exceptionally long legs, often seen striding across the open savannah.

• Grey Crowned Crane
One of Africa’s most elegant birds, with a golden “crown” and a long neck. It is particularly spectacular when performing its elaborate courtship dance with a mate.

• Superb Starling
Very common in the Serengeti and an excellent subject for photography, thanks to its beautiful, iridescent plumage.

• Fischer’s Lovebird
One of Tanzania’s cutest and most colourful bird species.

• Kori Bustard
One of the world’s heaviest flying birds. A male can weigh more than 10 kg.

• Southern Ground Hornbill
Often seen walking across the ground in small groups, rather than flying.

• Shoebill
One of the world’s strangest and most prehistoric-looking birds, instantly recognisable by its enormous, shoe-shaped bill.

🦛 Hippos spend most of the day in water or mud and usually come out around dusk, from about 6–7 PM, and during the night to feed on land.
🌙 At night, they are most active and can travel several kilometres from the water in search of grass.
☀️ During the day, they usually return to the water to cool down and protect themselves from the heat.
🦛 Best places to see hippos in Tanzania:
– Hippos can be seen in smaller pools and rivers, for example around the Grumeti River.
(Nyerere National Park) – The Rufiji River is an excellent place to see hippos. A boat safari offers a unique opportunity to observe them from the water.
