We continue on the trail leading out of the forest and into a savannah of tall grasses, heather, and volcanic rock draped with lichen beards. As we ascend through the lush rolling hills and cross several streams, we reach the Shira Ridge before dropping gently down to Shira 1 camp. At this the view of Kibo from across the plateau is unbelievable.
DAY 3: SHIRA CAMP 1 – SHIRA CAMP 2 – MOIR HUT

We explore the Shira plateau for a full day. It is a gentle walk east toward Kibo’s glaciered peak, across the plateau which leads to Shira 2 camp on moorland meadows by a stream.
DAY 4: MOIR HUT – LAVA TOWER – BARRANCO CAMP
Elevation (ft): 13,800ft to 13,000ft
Distance: 7 km
Hiking Time: 4-6 hours

From the Shira Plateau. We continue to the east up a ridge, passing the junction towards the peak of Kibo. As we continue, our direction changes to the Southeast towards the Lava Tower, called the “Shark’s Tooth.” Shortly after the tower, we come to the second junction which brings us up to the Arrow Glacier at an altitude of 16,000ft.
DAY 5: BARRANCO CAMP – KARANGA CAMP – BARAFU CAMP
Elevation (ft): 13,000ft to 15,000ft
Distance: 9km
Hiking Time: 8-10 hours
Habitat: Alpine Desert
After breakfast, we leave Barranco and continue on a steep ridge passing the Barranco Wall, to the Karanga Valley campsite. Then, we leave Karanga and hit the junction which connects with the Mweka route. We continue up to the Barafu Hut.
DAY 6: BARAFU CAMP – SUMMIT – MWEKA HUT
Elevation (ft): 15,300ft to 19,345ft (and down to 10,000ft)
Distance: 5 km ascent / 12 km descent
Hiking Time: 7-8 hours ascent / 4-6 hours descent
Habitat: Arctic
After midnight (around 2am), we continue our way to the summit between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers. You head in a northwesterly direction and ascend through heavy scree towards Stella Point on the crater rim. This is the most mentally and physically challenging portion of the trek.
At Uhuru Peak, you have reached the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the roof of the African continent. Faster hikers will see the sunrise from the summit.
DAY 7: MWEKA CAMP TO MOSHI
Elevation (ft): 10,000ft to 5,400ft
Distance: 10 km
Hiking Time: 3-4 hours
Habitat: Rainforest
After breakfast, we continue the descent down to the Mweka Park Gate to receive your summit certificates. At lower elevations, it can be wet and muddy. Gaiters and trekking poles will help. Shorts and t-shirts will probably be plenty to wear (keep rain gear and warmer clothing handy).
DAY 8: DEPARTURE

DAY 1: ARUSHA TOWN TO MACHAME CAMP
You’ll be picked up from your Arusha accommodations and make the drive to Kilimanjaro National Park. Here, you’ll liaise with your guides and begin your ascent through the verdant rainforest that clothes the lower reaches of Kilimanjaro.
You’ll finish your day at Machame Camp (3,000 meters). Where your porters will be waiting with your tents pitched. Hot water ready for bathing, and food ready to reenergize you for the day to come.
DAY 2: MACHAME CAMP – SHIRA CAVE CAMP
You’ll be up bright and early today, but it’s a shorter day of hiking. The lush forest gives way to scrubby moorland today, making for an entirely different hiking experience.
You’ll arrive at Shira Camp by the mid-afternoon, giving you time to relax and soak in the stunning views of Kibo glacier from the Shira Plateau.
DAY 3: SHIRA CAVE CAMP – LAVA CAMP – BARRANCO CAMP
Your first goal today will be the intimidating form of the Lava Tower (4,640m). And you’ll set off for this distinctive landmark immediately after breakfast.
After ascending 700m to the Lava Tower, you’ll descend gradually towards Barranco Camp at 4,500m.
Your trek again takes you through different vegetation zones. And you’ll set up camp at the scenic Barranco Camp in the shadows of the imposing Barranco Wall.
Considered the most beautiful of all of the camps on Kilimanjaro, Barranco will be your base for the evening.
DAY 4: BARRANCO CAMP-KARANGA – BARAFU CAMP
You’ll get your first real taste of mountain climbing today. As you’ll tackle Barranco Wall for a bit of old-fashioned rock climbing.
After this initial trial. You’ll continue towards the Karanga Valley, where you’ll stop for lunch.
After your meal, you’ll continue on for another 2-3 hours until you reach Barafu Camp.
DAY 5: BARAFU CAMP – UHURU PEAK – MWEKA CAMP
Your climbing team will wake you with a cup of hot tea and a light snack for energy. As you get dressed and prepare your daypack for the adventure ahead.
You’ll be hiking in utter darkness for the next 5-7 hours. So, take it slow and you’ll arrive at Stella Point a few hours before dawn. From here, there’s another two hours of intense hiking before you reach your ultimate goal: Uhuru Peak.
Standing at 5,985m. You’ll be able to experience spectacular sunrise and take in the panoramic view. You’ve done it! After snapping your photos and soaking it all in. You’ll begin the descent back down towards Barafu Camp, where you’ll stop for lunch and some celebration.
After a bit of rest, you’ll continue down to Mweka Camp overnight.
DAY 6: MWEKA CAMP – ARUSHA
It’s a day of celebration today. As you’ll enjoy one last breakfast on the mountain before descending to the Mweka Gate.
Here, you’ll get to celebrate with your porters and guides. Provide them with their tips for their hard work and collect your certificate of completion.
Your driver will then whisk you away to your Arusha hotel to get some well-earned rest.

DAY 3: AMBOSELI – LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK
08:00 Hours: After breakfast. We head back towards Nairobi and continue driving through the stunning scenery of Kenya’s Great Rift Valley so as to explore Lake Nakuru National Park.
Along the way, we make a brief stopover at the Rift Valley viewpoint for a morning view of the Majestic Mt. Longonot and the breath-taking view of the Rift Valley.
DAY 4: LAKE NAKURU – MASAI MARA NATIONAL GAME RESERVE
0800 hrs.: Depart the hotel after breakfast and drive through the dramatic Great Rift Valley to the Masai Mara Game Reserve.
On our way, we will pass through lake Naivasha for a boat trip experience.
Later hit the road to Masai mara game reserve which is part of the vast Serengeti plains famously known for its spectacular great wildebeest migration and is home to the Big Five e.g. Lion, Elephant, Leopard, Buffalo, and Rhino.
DAY 5: MASAI MARA GAME RESERVE EXPLORER
Our full day in the Masai Mara Game Reserve will be spared for the search of the big cats of Masai Mara and the spectacular view of the famous migration.
All of the “Big Five” animals (elephants, lions, leopards, rhinos, and buffalo) can be spotted here. Herds of plains zebras are found throughout the park.
Day 6: MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE – NAIROBI AIRPORT DROP OFF
06:00 Hours: If you are not participating in the hot air balloon you enjoy morning tea/ coffee or Hot chocolate followed by a morning game drive.
On the plains are enormous herds of grazing animals plus the elusive Cheetah and leopard hiding amidst acacia trees.
End of tour You’ll be dropped off at the airport.
