While on safari, don’t forget to keep an eye on shaded areas, predators often rest there to conserve energy before their evening hunts.

Elephants are the world’s largest land animals, easily recognized by their massive ears, iconic ivory tusks, and long trunks. Adult males can reach up to 3 meters in height and weigh between 4,000 to 7,500 kg.

To sustain their massive size, elephants eat for up to 18 hours daily, consuming roughly 2% of their body weight daily. In the bush, spotting elephants is often predictable. They're among the few large animals that allow you to approach them closely. With guidance from a knowledgeable safari guide, simply turning off the vehicle’s engine can create a peaceful moment to observe these gentle giants up close.

Fascinating Elephant Facts 🐘🐘🐘

🐘 Powerful Memory: Elephants possess incredible memories, sometimes retaining information for over 30 years. This allows them to recall distant water sources and recognize past dangers.

🐘 Minimal Sleep: Elephants sleep only 2 to 4 hours per day, usually in short intervals throughout the night. This minimal rest supports their constant need to forage. At night, you might hear them softly munching near your tent. Despite their size, they move quietly, often revealed only by the rustle of leaves or a broken branch.

Picture this:

🐘Sitting quietly in the vehicle as a young bull elephant flaps his ears, raises his trunk, and advances forward. This display of their strength and dominance will become a highlight of your safari experience.

If you ever get the chance, don’t just read, venture into the heart of the wilderness and witness these majestic animals up close.

When planning a safari, one of the key decisions you’ll make is choosing the type of vehicle that will take you through the wild. Your choice between an open or closed safari vehicle can greatly enhance your overall experience.

Both options are safe and offer unique advantages, it all depends on your preferences, comfort, and the kind of safari experience you’re looking for.

Closed Safari Vehicles
These are the most common safari vehicles, especially for first time visitors. They are fully enclosed with a roof and windows, offering protection from dust, sun, rain, and bugs. Some even have pop-up roofs, allowing you to stand and take photos safely while still being shielded.

Closed vehicles are ideal for:
• Travelers who prefer more comfort and security
• Long distance drives between parks
• Game drives in areas where wildlife may be denser or weather conditions unpredictable

For many first timers, a closed vehicle offers peace of mind, especially when they’re still getting used to being surrounded by wildlife.

Open Safari Vehicles
Open safari vehicles have no windows and often no roof (just a sunshade), giving you unobstructed views and a closer connection to nature. You’ll feel the wind, hear the sounds, and even smell the wild, it’s a raw and immersive experience.

Photographers often prefer open vehicles because:
• They offer greater visibility and flexibility to shoot from any angle
• There’s no glass reflection or restrictions when taking photos
• It’s easier to follow fast moving animals with your lens
You might wonder, “Can a leopard jump into the vehicle?” Technically, yes, but it’s extremely rare. Safari guides are highly trained to read animal behavior and ensure safety at all times.
Open vehicles are mostly used in private reserves and areas where wildlife is accustomed to the presence of vehicles.

Which Should You Choose?
If it’s your first safari, a closed vehicle might give you the confidence and comfort to enjoy your trip. If you’re seeking a more adventurous and up-close experience an open vehicle might be your best option.

Either way, you’re in for an unforgettable adventure. Both vehicle types are designed to enhance your safari while keeping you safe, guided by professionals who understand the rhythm of the wild.
