π¦ History of Ndutu
Ndutu is located in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, southern Serengeti ecosystem, in northern Tanzania. The area gained global recognition through the pioneering wildlife research work of Dr. Hugo van Lawick and Dr. Jane Goodall in the 1960s and 1970s. They documented the behavior of predators like lions, cheetahs, and hyenas in this region, and much of their groundbreaking work was centered around Lake Ndutu.
Historically, the area has been home to the Maasai people, who continue to coexist with wildlife under conservation rules that allow sustainable human-wildlife interaction. Ndutu is especially famous for its role in the Great Wildebeest Migration, where hundreds of thousands of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles gather to calve.
