Here is the low down on safari accommodation in Tanzania!
Depending on the type of trip you opt for, you may
stay in one accommodation for the duration of your trip or you may move between several if you are
covering different parks!
^ The norm is to choose between budget, mid-range and luxury.
A If you book through a safari company, they will organise your accommodation for you.
Don't be afraid to ask them to substitute accommodations you don't like or mix and match with mid-range and luxury.
Book directly with a local safari company or lodge as this will be the cheapest option.
Booking through a third party company will cost more.
Choosing to stay in accommodation outside the parks can sometimes be a cheaper option.
Types of accommodation:
^ Camping:
- This is the 'budget' option and they are usually a two person tent!
~Campsites are not fenced, so there will be animals around you.
~ You will often have a chef travelling with you.
You will be using public amenities on the campsite.
A Tented camps:
- These are the 'norm' in Tanzania and vary from midrange to luxury.
- There camps usually have a main guest dining area and individual guest tents.
- They are often not fenced, therefore you will have animals around you.
- You will have your own en-suite with a flushable toilet and most have running hot water.

- Lodges tend to be more similar to a guest house and usually have a solid structure.
- Guests usually sleep under the same roof in individual rooms.
- There are often bars, swimming pools and sometimes a gift shop.
- Lodges in Tanzania are usually classed as the higher end of luxury.
