Location: South-central Tanzania, part of the Eastern Arc Mountains
Status: Protected as Udzungwa Mountains National Park (est. 1992)
Size: About 1,990 km²
Elevation: From 250 m to 2,576 m (Luhombero Peak – the highest point)
🌍 Biodiversity & Wildlife
One of Africa’s most important biodiversity hotspots
Home to many endemic species (found nowhere else on Earth)
Famous primates include:
Iringa red colobus monkey
Udzungwa red colobus
Sanje mangabey
Over 400 bird species
Rich in butterflies, reptiles, amphibians, and rare plants
🌳 Vegetation
Ancient tropical rainforest, some over 30 million years old
Vegetation zones include:
Lowland rainforest
Montane forest
Bamboo forest
