We recently spoke with the incredible women of Jambiani who, each day at low tide, walk out into the shallow sea to tend rows of seaweed tied to wooden stakes. Dressed in vibrant fabrics, they harvest an essential crop used in cosmetics, food, and pharmaceuticals across Europe and Asia.

Seaweed farming brings income, independence, and dignity—but it’s also tough work under the sun. And it faces growing challenges: rising sea levels, warming waters, and the pressures of tourism.

As a guest at Babu Villas, we invite you to pause and witness the quiet strength just beyond the shore. These women, knee-deep in saltwater, carry forward a practice that is both beautiful and vital. 🌊🌿
