Born from a Passion for Conservation, Culture, and Adventure

The Friends of Usambara Cultural Tourism Enterprise (FoU-CTE), founded in 1997, is a proudly Tanzanian initiative under the umbrella of the Friends of Usambara Society, a local NGO dedicated to sustainable development in the Usambara Mountains and beyond. A Legacy of Purpose-Driven Travel

Our journey began with immersive walking tours

in the West Usambaras, developed in partnership with the SNV Netherlands-funded Cultural Tourism Program. From the start, we’ve believed that tourism should benefit both people and planet — a philosophy that continues to guide every experience we offer. Expanding Horizons: From Forest Trails to Iconic Landscapes

While our roots remain in the lush highlands of the Usambara Mountains — the ancestral home of the Shambaa people — our horizons have grown. Today, FoU-CTE offers a diverse portfolio of unforgettable adventures across Tanzania, including:

-Guided treks through the Usambara Mountains, rich in biodiversity and cultural heritage
- 🐘Wildlife safaris, to world-renowned parks like Serengeti, Ngorongoro, and Tarangire
- 🏖️ Beach escapes to Zanzibar and Tanzania’s pristine coastline
- 🏔️Mount Kilimanjaro climbs, from base to summit, led by experienced local guides

Thousands of wildebeest calves take their first steps each year in Tanzania’s Ndutu plains. Join Friends of Usambara for a 5‑Day Calving Season Safari that blends wildlife spectacle with community impact.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival in Arusha

Pick‑up from Kilimanjaro International Airport

Transfer to lodge in Arusha

Safari briefing and overnight stay

Day 2 – Arusha to Ndutu Plains (Southern Serengeti)

Scenic drive to Ndutu, the calving epicenter

Afternoon game drive among wildebeest herds and predators

Overnight at lodge/camp near Ndutu

Day 3 – Ndutu Plains (Full Day Safari)

Dawn game drive to witness wildebeest calves taking their first steps

Spot lions, cheetahs, and hyenas following the herds

Picnic lunch in the bush

Evening return to camp

Day 4 – Ndutu → Ngorongoro Crater

Morning game drive in Ndutu

Drive to Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Afternoon crater rim walk or Maasai cultural visit

Overnight at lodge near crater rim.

Day 5 – Ngorongoro Crater → Arusha → Departure

Descend into Ngorongoro Crater for a half‑day safari

Spot rhinos, elephants, buffalo, and diverse birdlife

Picnic lunch by the hippo pool

Drive back to Arusha for departure.
