There are some places you visit and some places you feel. The Serengeti is definitely the latter.
We are in the Central Serengeti right now, and I’m already behind on sharing our journey because our days have been so full - and honestly, sometimes you just need to put the phone down and take it all in.
The past couple of days have been extraordinary.
We’ve watched lions resting in the shade and beside a fresh kill. We’ve had a lioness walk right up to our safari vehicle — reminding us very quickly that out here, we are the visitors. We’ve watched hippos splashing and sparring in the water, elephants gathering at watering holes, giraffes moving across those endless golden plains, hyenas lurking nearby, and even had the incredible privilege of seeing cheetahs with their cubs.
And then there are all the moments in between.
Driving for miles across landscapes that seem to have no end. Standing up through the roof of the safari vehicle with cameras ready because you never know what might be around the next bend. Laughing together. Sharing meals at the end of the day and comparing photos and stories. And sometimes simply sitting quietly, looking out over this vast, wild place and realizing how incredibly lucky we are to be here.
That is what I love so much about safari.
It isn’t just about checking animals off a list. It’s about witnessing nature exactly as it is — beautiful, unpredictable, sometimes harsh, sometimes funny, and completely unscripted.
Nothing here is performing for us. Nothing is on a schedule.
We simply get to be here and witness it.
And somehow, no matter how many times I come back to Tanzania, the wonder of it never gets old. ❤️
The Serengeti has a way of reminding you just how big the world is… and how small and fortunate we are to be a part of it.
More to come — because we are definitely not finished yet! And… I’ll fill you in on our days in the Tarangire National Park and Lake Manyara too!
