The villages in Mikweme surrounding Mikumi National Park were in pandemonium. River Luhembe where children go to play and swim and women fetch water, had been invaded by an unwelcome guest: a vicious crocodile.

Traditionally, this river doesn't have these aquatic predators. The river serves as an essential water source for the locals. At this point, the villagers called no one but Makene Ngoroma... https://www.thecitizen.co.tz/tanzania/magazines/sound-living/how-makene-ngoroma-is-keeping-humans-wildlife-apart-in-mikumi-5451358

Are you around Mikumi?

If so don't miss on 25th May 2025 at 18:00 Camp Atupele would be a free lesson of bird language which will be conducted by renowned bird expert Jeff Caplan

Talk & Music: ~BIRD LANGUAGE
All bird species speak their own languages… but they understand a common language. Can we learn what they are saying to each other? Songbirds are the eyes and ears of our nature. They watch and warn other animals about the house cat, the eagle hawk, and curious humans! Research shows that human language may have had its roots in bird language. In this workshop you will learn: -The five most common songbird voices; -How to interpret their sounds, movements, and alarms; -Bird language skills you can use walking in a park, traveling to faraway lands, or sitting quietly in your home. -Using bird language, we present seven ways we can care for our neigh-birds.

Vidunda Village Cultural Tour (Camping)

Let us take you for a camping experience to the lesser-known people of the mountains who live near Mikumi National Park.
They warmly welcome you to explore their rich and exceptional traditional culture.

Discover their local cuisine (gastronomy), traditional dance performances, healing practices by traditional healers, and the unique "Izimbo" treatment. Visit sacred ritual sites, historical caves, and the Ibwedunghu cliff, once used by the WaVidunda to punish accused witches.

Learn about the leadership of Chief Ngwira and the history of the WaVidunda people.
Hear the fascinating story of how he traveled to Bagamoyo to invite the Roman Catholic Mission to Uvidunda—interestingly, there is still no mosque in Uvidunda.

Chief Kizumile Lwanda Ngwira was one of the few Tanzanian chiefs who resisted German colonial rule. He was hanged at Inyonge, and many of his people and livestock who were in hiding were killed at Nzilaha Cave during the Maji Maji War.

Visit the sacred area of Nzilaha in Iyungi Forest, where the spirit of the renowned witch doctor and ritual leader, Mwananyanga is laid.

The Vidunda village area is rich with untouched waterfalls and trails awaiting discovery, including Ibwedunghu, Mhululu, Nyamalenga, and Izumo.

Vidunda’s fertile land supports a variety of fruit trees and spice plants such as cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, ginger, turmeric, and coffee—offering campers a unique taste of nature’s drinks.
