Vidunda Village Cultural Tour (Camping)
Let us take you for a camping experience to the lesser-known people of the mountains who live near Mikumi National Park.
They warmly welcome you to explore their rich and exceptional traditional culture.
Discover their local cuisine (gastronomy), traditional dance performances, healing practices by traditional healers, and the unique "Izimbo" treatment. Visit sacred ritual sites, historical caves, and the Ibwedunghu cliff, once used by the WaVidunda to punish accused witches.
Learn about the leadership of Chief Ngwira and the history of the WaVidunda people.
Hear the fascinating story of how he traveled to Bagamoyo to invite the Roman Catholic Mission to Uvidunda—interestingly, there is still no mosque in Uvidunda.
Chief Kizumile Lwanda Ngwira was one of the few Tanzanian chiefs who resisted German colonial rule. He was hanged at Inyonge, and many of his people and livestock who were in hiding were killed at Nzilaha Cave during the Maji Maji War.
Visit the sacred area of Nzilaha in Iyungi Forest, where the spirit of the renowned witch doctor and ritual leader, Mwananyanga is laid.
The Vidunda village area is rich with untouched waterfalls and trails awaiting discovery, including Ibwedunghu, Mhululu, Nyamalenga, and Izumo.
Vidunda’s fertile land supports a variety of fruit trees and spice plants such as cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, ginger, turmeric, and coffee—offering campers a unique taste of nature’s drinks.
