Uhuru Peak is the true summit of Mount Kilimanjaro and the highest point in Africa, standing at 5,895 meters (19,341 feet) above sea level. Located on the Kibo volcanic cone in Tanzania, its Swahili name translates to "Freedom". It is a legendary, non-technical trekking destination.
Reaching Uhuru Peak is a challenging, multi-day undertaking. The biggest hurdle for most climbers is not the physical endurance of hiking, but rather altitude sickness. The air at 5,895 meters contains about half the oxygen found at sea level.
