Shira Route to Cathedral Peak Day Hike – Royal Climb and Safaris
Overview
Experience an incredible day hike on the Shira Route, trekking through the stunning landscapes of Mount Kilimanjaro’s western slopes to Cathedral Peak (3,872m). This adventure is perfect for acclimatization, nature lovers, or those who want a taste of Kilimanjaro’s beauty without summiting.

Trek through the scenic Shira Plateau, one of Kilimanjaro’s ancient calderas
Reach Cathedral Peak, offering breathtaking views of the plateau and Kilimanjaro’s peak

👉Itinerary

Morning:
Pickup & Transfer: Depart from Arusha/Moshi early morning (around 6:00 AM) for a 2-3 hour drive to Londorossi Gate (2,250m).
Registration & Drive to Shira Gate: After park formalities, drive further to Shira Gate (3,500m), the official trailhead.
Start the Hike: Trek across the Shira Plateau, a vast volcanic caldera with rolling hills and rocky terrain. Enjoy panoramic views as you ascend gradually.
Midday:

Arrival at Cathedral Peak (3,872m): Reach the peak in 2-3 hours, where you’ll enjoy spectacular views of Kibo Peak, the Shira Plateau, and the vast plains of Amboseli National Park in Kenya.
Rest & Picnic Lunch: Take a break, soak in the views, and enjoy a packed lunch.
Afternoon:

Descent & Return: Hike back to Shira Gate and return to Londorossi by vehicle.
Drive Back: Arrive in Moshi/Arusha by evening (around 6:00-7:00 PM).
