A lioness has successfully brought down a wildebeest along the riverbank, but now comes another challenge securing her hard earned meal. Watch closely as she desperately tries to drag the wildebeest away from the water and back onto the open plain. In the wild, making a kill is only half the battle. Every meal can attract competitors and scavengers, and a predator must protect what it has earned.

A hyena and a jackal arrived at what looked like the perfect opportunity a free meal waiting for the taking. No hunting, no chasing, just an easy jackpot. But in the African wilderness, nothing stays easy for long. Suddenly, a lion appeared. One roar, one charge, and both scavengers quickly realized the meal was no longer theirs. They scattered as fast as their legs could carry them.

This is the reality of the wild: food is competition, and even scavengers must constantly watch their backs. Lions can take advantage of kills made by other predators and may also defend a carcass from hyenas and jackals.
