Seeing a lioness carrying her tiny cub by the mouth can look frightening to us, but this is completely natural. A mother lioness gently grips the loose skin around the cub’s neck and carries it from one place to another especially when she needs to move her cubs away from danger or find a safer den. The cub’s body is naturally adapted for this kind of transport, and the mother knows exactly how to hold it without hurting it. Nature can look dangerous when we don’t understand it.

What looks scary to us is often simply a mother doing her best to protect her baby.

Up in the tree, the baboons are staying calm and watching. Down below, a family of lions is resting peacefully. Nobody is running, nobody is making a move but you can feel the tension. It looks like business is continuing as usual but this is definitely NOT good news for one side! 😂

The baboons know they’re safer up there, while the lions know exactly what’s happening above them. In the wild, sometimes the smartest move is simply to stay calm, keep your distance, and wait.
