30 years of helping people plan trips to Africa has taught me a lot. But some places never stop surprising you.

Kilimanjaro is one of them.

There’s something about standing at nearly 20,000 feet — higher than Everest Base Camp — that puts everything into perspective. No ropes. No technical gear. Just determination, good guides, and one foot in front of the other.

If Kilimanjaro has ever crossed your mind, my advice is simple: train a little, pick the right team, and go for it.

Taylor Wells, The Spence Connection’s Marketing Specialist, is leading a small group climb with July 4–13, 2026. If you’re looking for good company and a real adventure, this might be your sign to go.

I’d be happy to talk you through the options and help you decide whether it might be the right journey for you.

I’ve visited Botswana in my 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s. Not once have I left disappointed.

The wildlife. The silence. The sheer scale of it.

The Okavango Delta alone — a river that never reaches the sea, spilling into the Kalahari and creating one of the richest ecosystems on earth — is worth the trip alone.

The price reflects the promise: limited numbers, no crowded sightings, just you and Africa at its most untouched.

I’ve written about why Botswana belongs on your list, learn more through the link in my bio.

Why whale watching belongs on your list…

Each winter, gray whales travel thousands of miles from Arctic waters to the lagoons of Baja California Sur.

In places like Magdalena Bay, mothers give birth and care for their calves before beginning the long journey north again. Spending time on the water and seeing these remarkable creatures up close during this season is a truly special experience.

Few wildlife encounters feel as intimate as this one. I highly recommend it.🐋🌊

Some of the best travel experiences come from people who truly know a place.

In Baja California Sur, Todos Santos Eco Adventures is one of those operations. I’m currently down at Camp Cecil de la Bahía, set on a narrow strip of land with gray whales in Magdalena Bay on one side and a mangrove estuary full of birdlife and dolphins on the other.

It’s a wonderful way to experience Baja. If an adventure like this interests you, let’s chat.

I wrapped up my stay at Virunga Lodge last week after four days of gorilla trekking in Rwanda. A special thank you to Praveen Moman, who helped kick-start gorilla tourism in Rwanda after the genocide through the founding of and the creation of .

What stands today is more than a lodge. It is a vision rooted in conservation, community, and a long-term commitment to this extraordinary region.

Volcanoes Safaris continues to lead in gorilla and chimpanzee ecotourism, demonstrating how travel can directly support both wildlife protection and local livelihoods.

Thank you for a wonderful stay. The hospitality was incredible, the food was delicious, and the views were truly unmatched.

If you’re interested in gorilla trekking, DM me for the link to my Spence Connection official manual.

We just wrapped up three days at ‘s Sabora Tented Camp in the Grumeti Reserve on the western side of the Serengeti.

The camp is set within 350,000 acres of protected wilderness, offering up close experiences with wildlife. With more than 20 years of conservation in this area, the wildlife here is truly spectacular.

Staying in this private conservancy allows for fewer tourists and more animals. Exclusivity of location is my version of true luxury.

If this interests you, please reach out and I can connect you with my expert.

Special thanks to and .
