What if your beach day looked like this?

Just warm water, a boat ride, a quiet stretch of coast and plenty of time to decide what you feel like doing.

On Mafia Island, the days can be wonderfully simple.

You might head out on the water to snorkel, spend the morning exploring, or simply find a shady spot and do absolutely nothing for a while.

🦓 Safari Saturday: Would you be able to stay quiet if this happened right in front of you?

A river crossing is one of those safari moments where everyone in the car suddenly stops talking.

Well… almost everyone. 😄

You can hear our guests reacting as the first wildebeest make their way into the water. Then more follow. And suddenly, the whole scene is moving.

These moments are completely unpredictable. You don’t know when the animals will cross, how many will follow, or whether they’ll change their minds at the last moment.

And that’s part of what makes seeing the migration in real life so special.

You can’t plan the moment.
You can only be there when it happens. 🦓

✈️🌿 Flying Friday

Imagine stepping off a small plane… and finding yourself in the middle of the Serengeti.

No big airport.
No long queues.
Just a small airstrip, the sound of the aircraft disappearing into the distance, and the landscape stretching out around you.

For some of our guests, flying between safari destinations is more than a practical way to cover Tanzania’s long distances.

It’s part of the adventure.

And sometimes, within minutes of landing, your safari has already begun. 🦓

Years later, what do you actually remember from a trip?

How close is too close to an elephant?

One of the most important things a safari guide does isn’t finding animals.

It’s knowing when to stop the car — and when to give an animal more space.

Elephants may look calm, but they’re wild animals, and their behaviour can change quickly. A good safari isn’t about getting the closest possible photo.

It’s about watching, waiting and respecting the animal’s space.

Sometimes, the best sighting is the one where you simply sit quietly and let the elephant decide what happens next. 🐘

🔥🫶 Tribal Tuesday

Some of the best souvenirs aren’t things you bring home.

At Shanga, children can get much closer to the creative process and see how beautiful things are made by hand.

Here, one of our young travellers is learning about glass blowing alongside the people who do it every day.

A little concentration.
A lot of curiosity.
And probably a story they’ll tell when they get home. 😊

After a day exploring the Serengeti, there’s still one thing to do before settling in: getting to know the camp and the people who will look after you during your stay.

A short briefing, some practical information, and a chance to ask questions — all while sitting back and looking out over the Serengeti.

This is what we love about smaller camps.

They’re not just a place to sleep between game drives. They become part of the safari experience. 🧡

And sometimes, simply sitting still and looking out over the savannah is a pretty good way to end the day.

“Wait… is that our camp down there?”

This morning, our guests took to the skies for a balloon safari over the Northern Serengeti.

And as they floated over their camp, they spotted their guide waiting below.

He spotted them too. 👋

A wave from the balloon.
A wave from the ground.
And a little moment of connection in the middle of the Serengeti.

A balloon safari gives you a completely different perspective on the landscape — but sometimes, it’s the unexpected moments that make a safari memorable.

And yes… our guide got the best view from the ground. 😉
