MUSEVENI URGES AFRICAN COUNTRIES TO PROMOTE TOURIST ATTRACTIONS

President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda has urged tourism promotion institutions in Africa to make a comprehensive promotion on natural tourist attractions so as to bring dramatic economic changes in the African continent.

He made this wake up call while officiating at the 39th World Congress of Africa Travel Association (ATA) in Kampala, which among other things discussed ways to earn more from the available tourist attractions in the region.

He said that African continent is rich in terms of potential tourist attractions starting from the amazing snowcapped mountains like the Mounts Kilimanjaro in Tanzania and Ruwenzori in Uganda that despite being located near the equator still they have snow throughout.

“All over the world is only in this part of equator that has all these attractions while the rest of the equator is occupied by the sea except in Brazil which is all in the jungle”, said Museveni.

President Museveni further mentioned about the favorable weather condition which is also found in Uganda and some neighboring countries of East Africa which is neither too hot nor too cold like Tanzania and Kenya and that if well promoted those suffering from this might come and live here.

“Africa is the home of the most key religions of the world; it is the home of the human civilization and that history tells us that all human beings originated from Africa,” stressed Museveni.

On his part, Executive Director of ATA Edward Bergman said that Africa is steadily opening up in terms of travel and tourism and the opportunities for investment are endless. “ As the leader of African tourism, ATA is committed to working with members to leverage these opportunities by establishing public-private partnerships and by creating unique business networking and leasrning opportunities that ultimately allow tourist arrivals to grow”, remarked Bergman.

Tanzanian delegation in the congress is led by the Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism Honorable Lazaro Nyalandu.
