Zanzibar Ecotourism

Zanzibar Ecotourism Zanzibar has many natural reserves and protected areas for you to visit, learn about, and even help

zanzibar.eco aims to provide the most comprehensive ecotourism resource website about Zanzibar and East Africa through promoting and raising recognition of eco-friendly and socially responsible brands and companies. We furthermore want to increase the awareness of ecotourism practices among both - tourists and local businesses. We understand ecotourism as the practice of low-impact, ecologically,

educational and culturally sensitive travel that benefits local communities in an economical and sustainable way. We promote eco-friendly lodges/hotels/resorts, natural cosmetic products, sustainable souvenirs/jewelry/products, natural food restaurants/products, Yoga and eco-friendly tours. All our partners are interviewed and evaluated on the basis of several ecotourism criteria which can be found on our website www.zanzibar.eco. Our website zanzibar.eco will go live starting in March 2018.

🧑 Sunrises, New beginnings.
As 2021 comes to an end, we would like to thank each and everyone of you for being a part of our mission.
This year certainly didn't return to "normal" as we had all hoped; instead, uncertainty has become the new normal. Like 2020, we had to change and adapt to new circumstances.
Thanks to all partners, participants and clients who have placed their trust in us this year.
Happy New Year folks πŸ₯‚

🐒 Introducing our newest collaboration with Under The Wave!
Under The Wave is an NGO registered in Zanzibar dedicated to marine conservation. One of the activities carried out by Under The Wave is to collect turtle nests in the northeast of Zanzibar in collaboration with the local communities. The NGO relocates them to a secure area in order to protect them from poachers and natural threats.
How can you help with their cause?
You can volunteer in Zanzibar. The activities of Under The Wave are part of our Founding Organization's (World Unite!) Mother Nature Environmental Conservation Volunteering program.
You can also donate to the Netherlands foundation β€œThe Living Ocean".

πŸ’‘ Did you know? - Today let's learn something you might've not known about Zanzibar! ☺️
Famously known as Prison Island, Changuu Island is one of the tourist hotspots in Zanzibar. Not only does it attract visitors because of its scenic breathtaking landscape, but is also home to the giant Aldabra Tortoises.
Changuu island is among the few habitats in the world where these giant tortoises live. Going roughly 122 centimeters (48 inches) in length with an average weight of 250 kg (550 pounds), they are known to be among the longest-lived animals in the world with some thought to be over 200 years old. At the Prison Island, the tortoises ages are written on their shells.
😁 Now you know! Share this as you will to someone that would love to know this information. And if you're planning a trip to Zanzibar, be sure not to miss out on seeing these beauties!
As always, you can have some Zanzibar travel inspo on our website:

Zanzibar is home to a fragile host of ecosystems that are the habitats of a number of amazing mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians.
A great number of these animals can only be found in this part of the world and the ecosystems that support them require extensive preservation efforts so that each one of these animals can continue to survive.
πŸ’‘ Did you know that the following land animals bear habitat in Zanzibar?
Coconut Crab, Zanzibar Leopard, Red Colobus Monkey, Pemba Flying Fox, Blue Sykes’ Monkey, Aders’ Duiker, Bush Baby, Hyrax, Monitor Lizards, Zanzibar Servaline Genet.

😁 If you haven't smiled today, this is a sign!
The Zanzibar Red Colobus Monkey is native to Unguja (the main island of the Zanzibar Archipelago). Like the island itself, the Red Colobus is also a unique animal with plenty of zest and interest!
🌳 These monkeys can be found in three different types of forests across the main island where they live. Does Jozani Forest ring any bells?
As cute as they are, the red colobus are endangered and sadly their numbers keep decreasing. With the government official's help, conservationists are working to implement effective strategies to help protect their habitat.
πŸ’‘ This isn't the only animal native to the small Zanzibar islands, there's more! Zanzibar is home to a fragile host of ecosystems that are the habitats of a number of amazing mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians.
