This is a low and flat reserve area of about 5,000 square kilometers by size and it was established in 1965. Ugalla Game Reserve is among Tanzania’s unique protected areas, because it is a licensed reserve area for honey gatherers and fishermen. Both honey gatherers and fishermen are allowed to enter this reserve for harvesting honey and fish for just six months in a year.



Location
Ugalla River Game Reserve is located in the central-western part of Tanzania, in the eastern part of Lake Tanganyika.
Accessibility
Road
The area is accessible by roads using four wheel drive cars

By using chartered light aircraft from Arusha and Dar es Salaam
Climate
Temperature
The temperature of ranges between 130 C to 410 C depending on the area elevation.
Rainfall
Rain seasons is between January to April. This is the wonderful time for birdlife watchers although accessibility through most of roads becomes impossible because of heavy rains
Attraction
Ugalla River
Ugalla River which runs through the middle of the park, acts as an attraction to the Reserve.
Wild animals
There are abundance of wild animals found in the area like Hippo, Crocodile, Elephant sable, Lion, Topi, Roan, Wild dog, and Greater kudu.

Best Time To Visit
It’s good to visit this reserve area during dry season because in the rain season this reserve area is inaccessible because of extensive flood. However Ugalla forms an attracting home for most of the wildlife around this area during dry season.
