Giraffes and Oxpeckers
Giraffes are often accompanied by oxpeckers, industrious birds that greedily take advantage of any burrowing parasites embedded in the animals’ skin.
*_It’s mostly a symbiotic relationship:_* giraffes tolerate the fluttering birds in exchange for the removal of ticks, blood-sucking flies, fleas and lice.
*But oxpeckers also feast on blood and have been known to pluck at open wounds, hindering the healing process (not to mention they can be something of an irritant).⁣*
