Hit it with a stone and it rings out like a giant gong, its metallic ringing sound travelling for miles across the grasslands. Long before radios or mobile phones, the Maasai turned this rock into a natural communication system, sending signals between bomas and herds across the endless Serengeti.

The Mara River crossings are in full swing in the Northern Serengeti, with several crossings taking place each day. Intimate Camp Zebra remains the closest migration camp to the action and we have added four new tents to help meet demand during this busy period. Our Intimate Mobile Camps are thoughtfully designed to minimise environmental impact. Once guests depart, the camp is fully dismantled and all materials removed so the site is left untouched.
