Lack of Thumbs: The name “colobus” comes from the Greek word “ekolobóse,” meaning “he cut short.” This refers to the significant reduction in size or complete absence of an opposable thumb in colobus monkeys. Instead, they have four elongated fingers that form a strong hook, allowing them to easily grasp branches while swinging through the forest canopy.
The Zanzibar red colobus is a species of red colobus monkey endemic to Unguja, the main island of the Zanzibar Archipelago, situated off the coast of Tanzania mainland.
