It’s wonderful to see Dr. John David Arnold visiting ZASPIHE and engaging with the team! His presence is a testament to his commitment to connecting with diverse communities and exploring innovative initiatives in education, sustainability, and organic farming. Hosting such an inspiring leader at ZASPIHE must have been an incredible experience, allowing for meaningful exchanges of ideas and inspiration.

Dr. Arnold’s visit underscores the value of our spice tours and the work we do to promote Zanzibar’s rich heritage and organic practices. We’re honored to have had the opportunity to showcase our efforts to someone who has dedicated his life to uplifting communities and fostering development.

I am Issa Foum Ali from Zanzibar, passionate about sustainable development, organic farming, and creating opportunities for others. These interests inspired me to establish the Zanzibar Spice and Heritage Center (ZASPIHE).

My father, Mr. Foum Ali Garu, has been my inspiration. With a Master’s in Agriculture and over 12 years in tourism, he championed sustainable practices and showcased Zanzibar’s heritage. A retired tutor from the State University of Zanzibar (SUZA) in the School of Agriculture, he taught organic farming and post-harvest techniques. He has guided notable figures like Prince Charles of Wales and the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, demonstrating the harmony of organic farming and tourism.

Before studying in Germany, I was deeply influenced by my father’s work. He instilled in me a respect for tradition, love for the land, and a vision for a sustainable future. My time in Germany, volunteering and learning about sustainability, reinforced these values and led to ZASPIHE’s creation.

At ZASPIHE, we offer immersive experiences such as spice tours, cooking lessons, mushroom farming, beekeeping, and Swahili culture workshops. These programs not only highlight Zanzibar’s natural and cultural treasures but also uplift local communities.

My mission is to preserve Zanzibar’s traditions, promote sustainable farming, and welcome the world to experience the island’s magic. Through ZASPIHE, I honor my father’s legacy, strengthen the community, and create unforgettable experiences.
