7 Day Walking Safari to Ngorongoro, Empakai, Odonyo Lengai and Lake Natron is a program where you get into a very close contact with nature and become active at the same time, the income generated is going directly to the community where we are walking through. It is well worth visiting one or two alongside your safari, to get a real feel for both the cultural and natural history of this fascinating part of Tanzania. – With an armed ranger and donkeys carrying your camping gears and required luggage you will be guided through the Highlands of Ngorongoro Conservations Area to the Active volcanic Mount Oldonyo Lengai and relax at the Lake Natron afterwards. Below is the proposed day to day arrangement. Contact us for more details. [email protected]
Day 1: Ngorongoro Crater
Today we visit the largest intact volcanic crater in the world, the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater. At more than 2,000 feet deep and 12 miles in diameter, the Ngorongoro Crater has one of the largest concentrations of wildlife in Africa. 30,000 animals make their home in this crater, making it an ideal place for sightings of the ‘big 5′ – lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo and leopard. We enjoy a picnic lunch in this truly world-class attraction, also known as the ’8th Wonder of the World’. Our dinner and Dinner and overnight Simba Campsite: FB
Day 2: Olmoti and Empakai Crater
After breakfast depart to Olmoti Crater for a half day walk. Often we meet Maasai on the way to the water falls at the crater.
At afternoon we proceed to our base camp at Empakaai Crater (Special Campsite).
Experiencing the serenity and quiet beauty of this wild spot. Surrounding the lake you will reach springs, where you frequently see lots of wildlife. In the lake there are many flamingoes.
Dinner and overnight at: the special Campsite, Empakaai: FB
Day 3: Empakaai to Lake Natron
Today we start walking from Empakaai to Lake Natron. We descend the outer hills of the Great Rift Valley; we walk through the open plains of the Embulbul depression, passing through Naiobi village. We have also the great opportunity to meet the local Maasai.
Ol Doinyo Lengai and Mount Meru are seen along the way.
Donkeys carry our luggage. Dinner and overnight at Acacia Campsite: FB
Day 4: Walking to Odonyo Lengai
Today we walk to Oldonyo Lengai, the single active volcano mountain in Tanzania this means (the holy mountain of the Maasai). The trail will lead us down into the Rift Valley escarpment, and most of the parts are quite steep. After 5-6 hours of walking we reach the foot of the inspiring mountain. Here you can decide if you want to camp at the Chini Ya Mlima campsite, or want to proceed to the Engaresero campsite, which is much more comfortable (showers!) and less hot. Dinner and overnight at Engaresero Campsite: FB
Day 5: Lake Natron to Lake Manyara
Today you’ll experience the culture and traditions of the local Maasai at Lake Natron. Your local guide will show you the Maasai Boma and explain the way Maasai live; after a short visit in the maasai boma we will drive back to Lake Manyara. Dinner and overnight at Lake Manyara Campiste: FB
Day 6: Maasai Boma Tour
Visit a Maasai boma and see the lifestyle of this legendary tribe up-close. Along with a guided tour of the boma and an introduction to the local Maasai population, tribesmen will offer to paint traditional Maasai tattoos for visitors and even let them milk their prized cows.
Dinner and overnight at The African Tulip Hotel:
Day 7: Arusha to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO).

Lions enjoy relaxing and lazing around,They spend between 16 and 20 hours each day resting and sleeping. They have few sweat glands so they wisely tend to conserve their energy by resting during the day and become more active at night when it is cooler. This year we are again witnessing huge heads of Wildebeests Migration
During the period the seemingly unending short grass plains of the southern Serengeti, and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area (not the Ngorongoro Crater), are inhabited by enormous herds of wildebeest and zebra. Pregnant female wildebeest are attracted to the calcium and magnesium rich grass which is good for milk production. Calving occurs late January through mid March when over 80% of the female wildebeest give birth over a period of a few weeks. An estimated 400,000 wildebeest calves are born during this period. I really like this time of year for the migration. Not only is the area gorgeous with its many flat topped acacia tortilis trees, the concentrated herds around the Ndutu and Salei plains attract the attention of lion, good numbers of cheetah (not normally found around lion as they are competitors) and hyena. In the woodland, giraffe, elephant and buffalo are pretty easy to find. Contact us for more [email protected]
