Enjoy JOZANI FOREST
The Jozani forest is the home of the red Colobus monkey. Found only on the main island of Zanzibar it is recognised as a separate spate spaces and is said to be endemic to Zanzibar. These monkeys are full of character, and roam freely. But Jozani is also home to other species including Sykes monkeys, small buck, chameleon and bush pigs. The forest is inhabited by over 100 species of butterflies. Some as big as you hand. The elusive Zanzibar leopard (last sited several years ago) is said to feed here at night – perhaps this is why the reserve is only open during the day?! The forest is surrounded by mangroves and tropical fish can be seen in the shallow water the flows through. Jozani has an excellent nature trail and the guides are well trained and exhaustive. A walk through this impressive flora and fauna is one of the highlights Zanzibar has to offer.
