At Burning Man 2025, Ukrainians are bringing this black cloud that visualizes the immense existential threat looming overhead. It has arrived and isn’t going anywhere. Europe and the U.S. can continue to ignore it — though that won’t make it disappear — or they can start preparing and helping Ukraine.

The piece, titled “Get Ready!” or “The Black Cloud,” features flashes of lightning, and instead of thunder, the sounds of explosions and shelling recorded in Zaporizhzhia. The sculpture was created in collaboration between the Ukrainian art group and the media project Ukrainian Witness. The artist is Liosha Say.

For the first time, the work is being shown in Kyiv, at Sofiyska Square, until Monday — before it is sent across the ocean.

These amazing volunteers didn’t just come with support — they drove it in. Literally. They brought a vehicle for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, fully on their own initiative, and with hearts full of solidarity.
