Galeries Lafayette opened its doors to visitors at the end of the 19th century. The place for the construction of the store was chosen in the area near the train station. Every day hundreds of residents and guests of the city passed by. Originally it was a small boutique, where lace and ribbons were sold. But two years after the opening, the founders of the outlet - cousins Theophilus Bader and Alphonse Kahn - bought all the nearby buildings and converted them into a large shopping complex.
