Did you know that there is an Equator mark in Entebbe…

Luwaji Island in Lake Victoria is a wonderful site located about 15mins off the Entebbe shores. Another spectacular spot for bird watching and a meditation area.

Unlike all the other equator marks in Uganda, like Mpigi, Namayingo, Mayuge and others, Entebbe is the closest mark, 25 minutes from Entebbe International Airport.

Lake Victoria is one of the Africa’s Great Lakes. With a surface area of approximately 59,947 km2,Lake Victoria is Africa’s largest lake by area, joining 3 major EastAfrican countries Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania and the world’s largest tropical lake, the world’s second-largest fresh water lake.
In terms of volume, Lake Victoria is the world’s 9th largest continental lake with a shallow depression in Africa. The lake has an average depth of 40 m (130 ft) and a maximum depth of 80 - 81 m 262-226 f twith over 52 islands constituting 4.7% of this great lake.

The independance tree found in the middle of Entebbe is where the independence freedom movement / meetings and political rallies were held in Uganda in 1950s.
Ignatious Kangave musazi rode his bicycle about 60km on bare foot all the way to the Entebbe freedom tree as a way of protesting for Ugandas independence and today we remember their heroic act as we celebrate our 62nd year of independence.
