For the ecosystem to survive, it takes a number of factors and 🪲 are vital in our ecosystem. They are outstanding planetary citizens.

Dung that is produced by animals like elephants, buffaloes, giraffes is spread to different spaces by these insects. They put their heads down and bottoms up and use their super strong front legs to roll the balls they make off the dung.

Some of the beetles live in the dung, the brood from here and the young ones feed on the dung.

-This process nourishes the earth and the nutrients in the dung is spread and also less flies in the environment.

It is always interesting to meet these little creatures while on safari. These are details of the wilderness that we don’t usually encounter.

Leopards 🐆 are smart hunters- silent, stealthy and deadly. They have incredible strength and their claws are sharp.

These rosette 🏵️ patterned predators make the wilderness survival a strategic game. They can stalk in grass, launch attacks from branches and they always play to win.

This could be a dramatic encounter of the two members of the Big 5. These elephants and the pride of lions on a game drive at the Serengeti in Tanzania.

Lions 🦁 might be named the king’s of the savanna but these other giants are untouchable. Elephants are highly protective of their space especially when with calves. Despite lions being apex predators they typically avoid direct confrontation with adult elephants.

Giraffes have long necks and legs, but their necks aren’t long enough to reach the ground while standing upright, so they must spread their front legs to lower their heads to drink.

This position is vulnerable for giraffes, they drink quickly, taking large gulps to compensate for the vulnerability of their drinking posture as it may risk high blood pressure in their brain.

The Ziwa Rhino and Wildlife Ranch is located in the Nakasongola district of central Uganda and was established in 2005. It is a conservation area dedicated to protecting and breeding the highly endangered white rhinoceros. Today, the ranch is home to a thriving population of rhinos, making it a must-visit destination for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts.

The sub-saharan bushes and forests harbor these shy and usually solitary antelopes-Cape Bushbucks. They are very amazing animals with spiral horns (in males) and geometrically shaped white spots.

They are grazers and at the same time browsers. This one that we met was calm and never shy to run away.

The elephant’s digestive system is a fascinating one. They take in a vast amount of plant material but their digestion is inefficient.

They eat about 100-150kgs of vegetation and digest only about 40-60%. They have simple stomachs unlike the other ruminants like buffalo 🐃 and cows (which have different stomach chambers) and most of what they eat is brought back in the dung.

The elephant dung is fibre-rich waste and when decomposed it is important for the rejuvenation of the plant life in the ecosystem.
