3 Days Chimpanzee Tracking in Budongo Forest and Kibale Forest National Park
Primates are playful! Tracking these human-like animals will guarantee you a friendly welcome in the jungles of Budongo and Kibale Forests; with a concentration of primates you will hardly find anywhere else in the East African region. Itinerary
On arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be received by a guide who will take you in a private vehicle to Skyway Hotel. As soon you reach the hotel, you will check in to your rooms and rest as you prepare for your trip the following day. Day 1: Travel to Budongo Forest. After breakfast, we will embark on the journey to Budongo Forest Reserve - about 380km away which will take 4 hours driving through beautiful savannah landscapes of central Uganda before branching off at Nakitooma for 7km to Zziwa Rhino Sanctuary to check out the southern white Rhinos. Thereafter you will connect to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary headquarters and team up with a ranger guide and embark on the search for the Rhinos in the sanctuary. You will explore the sanctuary through the impressive savannah landscapes before you come across the gigantic species that form part of the ‘Big Five’ family. After enjoying moments with the Rhinos, you’ll retreat and settle for lunch. You will then proceed on the drive through Masindi town and connect to Budongo Forest in the afternoon for forest relaxation, dinner and overnight. Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking in Budongo Forest
Early morning after breakfast, our guide will give you a briefing before a hike to the forest in search of common Chimpanzees and many more primates. The Chimpanzee trek in Budongo Forest is very magical going beyond Chimpanzees as it offers sights of luxuriant flora including tall trees with huge buttresses, a myriad of birds and their enchanting sounds along with fauna. The one hour with the chimps will enable you to explore them as they forage, socialize, copulate and make pant hooting calls and patrols. The chimpanzee trek normally lasts for 2 – 4 hours after which you’ll proceed for your lunch and a rest as you prepare for another spectacular journey to Kibale Forest National Park, which is about 148Km away (approx. 4 hrs). Day 3: Chimp tracking in Kibale Forest National Park
If you’re a primatologist, then you are in the right place! Early on the morning of the third day you will go in search of chimpanzees in Kibale Forest. Kibale Forest National Park is particularly alluring to nature lovers as it is known for the excellent chimp tracking and birding experience it provides, having probably the highest concentration of primates in East Africa of about 13 different primate species including chimpanzees, Vervet, red-tailed L’Hoest and blue monkeys. After chimp tracking in the morning you won’t have to miss the afternoon primate walk to Kanyanchu River camp, the most popular walk in the park, before heading back to Kampala, your area of residence or Skyway Hotel in Entebbe, after this memorable 3-day trek.
