How Much Does a Chimp Permit Cost at Kibale Forest?
One of the most common questions we get — and we love answering it!
Here’s the breakdown for 2026 as set by Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA):
Foreign Non-Residents
• Chimpanzee Trekking — $250 per person
• Chimpanzee Habituation — $300 per person
• Low Season (April, May & November) — $200 per person
🌍 Foreign Residents — $200 per person
🇺🇬 East African Citizens — UGX 150,000
A standard chimp trek lasts 2–4 hours in the forest, with 1 full hour spent with a wild habituated chimpanzee community. Sighting success rate at Kibale is over 90% — the highest in Africa!
Pro Tip: Book your permit 3–6 months in advance, especially for peak season (June–August & December–February) — slots sell out fast!
