Big things, behind the scenes, at WAS! 🌍

It’s been a jam-packed week for our CEO, Peter ( ) and Managing Director, Phil ( ) here in Uganda.

They’ve been making the most of their time together on the ground, criss-crossing the city for strategic meetings with tour operator associations, safari vehicle suppliers and merchandise vendors. As always, the hard work continues so that we can keep delivering the highest standards for our Adventurers 🧭

The absolute highlight of the week? Our People. A great catch-up with , one of our brilliant Guides (and a Cantonese-speaker! 🇨🇳) and , our newly promoted Reservation Officer! 🎉

Patricia has been a vital part of the family since late 2024 and has proven herself to be an incredibly dedicated and competent professional in her previous role as Operations Coordinator. She is a true tourism superstar with a bright future ahead - we’re very lucky to have her on our team 😊

Please join us in the comments to congratulate Patricia on her well-deserved promotion! 🥳

The Rhinos are Back! 🦏

On 8 January 2026, the Uganda Wildlife Authority successfully moved four Southern White Rhinos to the Ajai Wildlife Reserve - bringing the species back to the West Nile region for the first time in 40 years.

This is a major milestone and these four pioneers are just the beginning of a plan to re-establish a healthy population of 20 rhinos in the North.

It’s a strong vote of confidence for the region’s stability and an exciting step forward for the future of Uganda safaris.

Uganda or Rwanda? 🦍

It’s the #1 question we get asked. And the answer isn’t just about the price tag - it’s about the experience.

In this edition of our Insight Series, we’ve published the Complete Guide to Gorilla Trekking in Uganda and Rwanda for 2025/26. We strip away the fluff to give you the logistical realities of trekking in the Albertine Rift 🥾

Inside the Guide:

• Cost Reality: Uganda’s permits are $800. Rwanda’s are $1,500. We break down exactly what that $700 difference means for your budget.

• ‘Insider Secret’: Did you know that there’s a 4-hour Gorilla Habituation Experience in Uganda?

• ‘Rainforest Rule’: Why you shouldn’t let the calendar dictate your trip (and why the ‘dry season’ might not be your best option).

• Terrain: The difference between the jungle of Bwindi’s Impenetrable Forest National Park vs. the open bamboo forests of the Volcanoes National Park.
