𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗮𝘀 𝗚𝗶𝗳𝘁𝘀 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰!

The scheme was created to help those living in the Bunyonyi Lake area in South West Uganda and is a popular way for people to give unusual gifts that make a difference. We now have many people who give annually through this scheme.

Prices range from £3 for reading glasses or a panga (a simple agricultural tool of immense practical value) to £300 for a water tank which will provide benefit to several households.

Now in its 5th year, this scheme is a fabulous way to benefit the local community around Lake Bunyonyi through Itambira Island Seeds of Hope.

Sleeps up to 4 in a double bed and 2 singles with ensuite bathroom with WC and hot shower as well as a generous balcony overlooking Lake Bunyonyi. Wonderful to see our gorilla population expanding!

Born to Adult Female Furaha of the Nkuringo family in ’s Bwindi Impenetrable NP, the group now comprises of 15 individuals.

Good food is an important part of any traveller’s experience. Thanks to chef Hilary, our guests are well fed with a wide range of fabulous meals. Expect food which is tasty and plentiful, using local ingredients as much as possible. Many of the fruit and veg that end up on your plate have been grown on our land - no wonder they taste so fresh!

What could be better than enjoying wonderful food with a view of peaceful Bunyonyi Lake. Our restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, evening meal, snacks and drinks.

That's how you close a meeting Itambira style!

Celebrations and dancing marked the end of our Food Security & Nutrition training course for a group of local mums and some of their children.

This popular course teaches important principles as well as providing tips and techniques for feeding the family.

Itambira Island Seeds of Hope uses profit from tourism to help benefit the local community in a number of areas, including a variety of training courses.

Wonderful news of a new addition!
Don’t forget we can arrange trips to visit the gorillas from Itambira Island, Seeds of Hope, Bunyonyi Lake. We organise permits, guides, transport and accommodation- so all you need to worry about is remembering your camera for those precious memories.

Meet the world’s newest baby mountain gorilla 🦍 born in the Bikingi Mountain Gorilla Family.

We are glad to share with you this first mobile image from our field team in Rushaga - Bwindi Impenetrable NP, Uganda

The baby was born to Adult Female Mucecuru who is a member of the Bikingi gorilla group, famously known for the Gorilla Habituation Experience. The baby was first seen yesterday but is expected to have been born on the night of Friday, 2nd February 2024.

This new birth brings the total number of mountain gorillas in the family to 09 (nine) individuals. We congratulate Silverback Kaharata (the dad) and Mucecuru (the mom) as well as the whole Bikingi family on this great news. We wish the baby a long and happy life.

𝟭𝟲 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝗮𝗻𝗸𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗶𝗽𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲!

Last October, we were pleased to announce we’d delivered 48 water tanks. We set a target for 50 by Christmas. Thanks to our Christmas Gifts campaign and kind donations, that target has been absolutely smashed! We were thrilled to receive funds to enable us to build 𝗮𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟲 water tanks for local communities, taking our total to 𝟲𝟰 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗸𝘀 - each of which is delivered together with a day of training about sanitation and hygiene.

This is so gratefully received by the recipients. It saves the steep daily climb to the lake, thereby enabling more productive activities adjacent to the home, as well as delivering enormous benefits to hygiene and health.
