When you reach the gorilla trekking center.
Before gorilla trekking, the guides brief you on the golden rule:

keep a 10m distance from the animals. However, the funny part is that gorillas don’t know what „ 10 meters“ means!

They decide where they want to go, and sometimes... that’s straight toward you! If a gorilla approaches, you are to stay calm, stay quiet, and let the guides direct you in handling the situation. With a 2hr max observation limit, our ranger announced to us, „enjoy your last minute before we have to head back“.

As we were taking in our last moments with these incredible animals out comes this overly confident silverback male. He causally just walks past and myself shoulder checking us on the way as if to say „make way for the future king“.
Needless to say this was completely unexpected in the best way possible - after picking our jaws up off the floor and shaking our heads in disbelief, happy tears streamed down our faces as we had just experienced one of the most incredible wildlife encounters ever!
