A job well done by UWA- Uganda Wildlife Authority!

A stray elephant that had terrorized residents and destroyed crops in Bukatu village, Kamwenge District, has been safely captured and relocated to Kibale National Park.

Estimated to be 20-year-old, the bull with 3496kgs had been roaming the area for months, feeding on maize, bananas, and fruits while hiding along River Mpanga. After days of tense tracking, including drone surveillance and multiple charges, the elephant was finally subdued by a team of 30 rangers and veterinarians.

It was treated, fitted with a GPS collar, and released back into the wild, all in 6hours.

Residents have welcomed the move with relief, calling it a major step in restoring safety and protecting livelihoods.
The operation highlights the growing strength of Uganda’s wildlife conservation efforts, protecting both people and animals.
