A Night Safari.
A guided night game drive is one of Africa's iconic wildlife adventures done in national parks, reserves and Conservancies that takes place between 7pm to 9pm , often following an evening sundowner. Night game drives are led by armed ranger guides for safety and there is use of strong spotlights to illuminate animals in the dark. Common sightings include lions, leopards, hippos, genets, porcupines, civet cats, bush babies, hyenas, aardvarks and so much more. If lucky, one will get to have intimate views of predators hunting , and elusive species active only after dark.
These experiences can be done ;
In Kenya: Ol pejata conservancy (laikipia), Lewa wildlife conservancy, Naboisho, Olare Motorogi Conservancy, Samburu National Reserve.
In Rwanda: Akagera NP
In Tanzania: Lake Manyara NP, Tarangire NP, Ruaha NP
In Uganda: Murchison falls NP, Lake Mburo NP, Queen Elizabeth NP.
What to wear and carry on a night game drive:
Prioritize warmth, comfort and protection by layering clothing in neutral tones like khaki, olive and beige. Wear long trousers and long sleeves shirts to protect against insect bites and cool evening breezes.
A good pair of binoculars enhances your ability to spot wildlife from a distance. A camera helps you capture memorable moments.
While on a night safari, patience and quietness is key plus trusting your guides as well. Wildlife often appears when you least expect it.
