Uganda is home to almost half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas, making it one of the best destinations on earth for gorilla trekking.

Here are a few amazing facts about gorillas and gorilla trekking:

1. Gorillas share about 98% of their DNA with humans, making them one of our closest relatives.

2. Gorilla trekking in Uganda mainly takes place in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park.

3. Baby gorillas are incredibly playful and can stay with their mothers for up to 4 years while learning survival skills.

4. A gorilla trek can take anywhere from 1 to 6 hours depending on where the gorilla family is located in the forest.

5. Once you find the gorillas, visitors are allowed one magical hour to observe and photograph them in their natural habitat.

6. Gorilla tourism also plays a huge role in conservation and supports local communities around the parks.
