Day 3 - The Damask Rose

The Damask Rose (Rosa damascena) has been referred to by many as the king of flowers and a symbol of love, purity, faith and beauty since the ancient times.

It originated from Iran and essential oil extracting from its flowers has been started since the 7th century A.D.

Medical benefits:

This plant, especially in Iran is traditionally used for treatment of abdominal and chest pains, strengthening the heart, menstrual bleeding, digestive problems and constipation.

Day 2 - The Flamingo Flower

The Flamingo Flower (Anthurium andraeanum)  is a species of plant that is native to Colombia and Ecuador. It was listed in thE NASA Clean Air Study as an effective plant in removing xylene, toluene and ammonia from the air.

Medicinal uses:

Down here in Uganda, the plant is used to heal arthritis and reduce pain in the body, especially the bones. The leaves are cut and boiled and the sick person sits in the steam and covers themselves with a blanket and sweats in there. When the pores open, the healing properties enter the body and create that relieving sensation.

For the next 7 days starting today, we are going to interest you with some of our herbs and fruits that have quite many health benefits, many of which our parents used for treating various diseases.

Day 1 - The Soursop;

The Soursop (Annona Muricata) fruit's origin is unknown. However, it is native to the Caribbean and the Americas.

It has a white pulp and it's seeds are indigestible. It's a bit acidic when ripe and it's aroma is like that of the pineapple, and it's flavour like that of a mixture of apples and straw berries.

Medicinal uses;

Small research points to this fruit having some elements that alleviate the symptoms of cancer. In Uganda, many herbalists have used it's juice together with other concoctions to alleviate the symptoms of AIDS.

Other than these, it is very rich in vitamin C which helps improve your body immunity.
