Lake Mburo National Park is a compact protected area located in Western Uganda and accessing it is possible on Kampala-Mbarara route, about 4 hours’ drive. This park spreads covering over 260 sq.km making it one of the smallest savanna parks in Uganda. It is surrounded by western districts like Kiruhura, Mbarara, Lyantonde and Isingiro.

As a birding destination, Lake Mburo National Park holds over 350 bird species. These range in the park’s distinct habitats such as Lakes, woodland, acacia savannas, grasslands, swamps and more.
The birds of Lake Mburo NP include among many white winged warblers, African finfoot, Southern ground hornbill, yellow billed oxpecker, papyrus gonoleks, brown chested plover, spot flanked, grey crowned crane, black bellied bustard, red faced barbets, Carruther’s cisticola, brown parrot and more.

Semuliki National Park supports up to 53 mammal species including dwarf antelopes, duikers, elephants, flying squirrels, Mona monkeys, forest buffaloes, bush babies, little collared fruit bat, leopards, pygmy hippos, bush pigs, and target rats. Others include the sitatungas, red legged sun squirrel, waterbucks, Uganda kobs, white bellied duikers, Zenker’s flying mouse. 8 primate species also live in this lush forest park and they include: DeBrazza’s monkeys, blue monkeys, vervet monkeys, colobus monkeys, olive baboons, plus night primates such as galagos, pottos.
𝐁𝐢𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐭
Among the 441 bird species in Semuliki, are: the red billed Malimbe, orange weaver, blue headed crested flycatcher, purple breasted sunbird, Sassi’s olive greenbul, white tailed hornbill, forest ground thrush, black wattled hornbill, Nkulengu rail, long tailed hawk, lyre tailed honey guide, Congo serpent eagle;
Shoebill stork, red billed helmet, black winged starling, white throated blue swallow, leaf love, black casqued wattled hornbill, yellow throated nicator, swamp palm bulbul, red eye puff back, etc.
𝐒𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐲𝐚 𝐇𝐨𝐭 𝐬𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 -𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝’𝐬 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐡𝐨𝐭 𝐬𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬
One of the world’s powerful hot springs – Sempaya also lies right in Semuliki National Park. This is famous of its 100 degree Celsius boiling rate and it is capable of making an egg or plantain ready in minutes.

Safaris in Semuliki are beyond magical encounter with wildlife. The people in the surrounding are amazing to interact and a visit to their local communities for cultural safari experience is the most remarkable thing you can do because you have supported them greatly. In the surrounding Semuliki, there live the Bamba at the base of the Rwenzori Mountain ranges and Bakonjo; the Batwa the famous hunters and gatherers also reside adjacent to the park.

Rwenzori Mountains National Park is found in Kasese district, Western Uganda and it is at the extreme border with the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Rwenzori Mountains Park became a Uganda National Park in 1991 and as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it was declared in 1994. Around 2008, it was designated as Ramsar site.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐞𝐞

Seventy (70) mammal species live in the diverse habitats of Rwenzori Mountains Park. The park contains 6 Albertine endemic species, 4 species endemic to Mount Rwenzori. These consist of elephants, leopards, bush bucks, Rwenzori otters, primates such as l’hoest monkeys, chimpanzees, Angola black and white colobus monkeys. Unique reptiles also dwell here including the three horned chameleons.

𝐁𝐢𝐫𝐝𝐬

Rwenzori Mountains National Park contains over 217 bird species largely Albertine rift endemic species and they include 17 endemic species to the Rwenzori Region. The abundant birds to sight on birding tour in Rwenzori Mountains National Park include the lagden’s bush-shrike, handsome francolin, and barred long tailed cuckoo, etc.

6 magical equator snow-capped peaks make up the massive Rwenzori Mountain ranges located at rift valley region. The highest is Margherita peak on Mt. Staley (5109m), Mt. Luigi da Savoia, Baker, Speke, and Emin Pasha.

Rwenzori Mountains hosts up to 20 incredible Lakes and it is no wonder one of the most beautiful places in Africa. They include Lake Kitandara, Lake Mahoma and Lake Bujuku, etc.
