The Kenyan Government has listed Lake Ol Bolossat among the priority wetlands to be designated as Ramsar sites by 2024.

However, the lack of comprehensive biodiversity data is hindering its designation process and affects the effective conservation strategies and action plans for the lake's rich biodiversity.

EAWLS has partnered with Wangari Maathai Institute University of Nairobi JRS Biodiversity Foundation and MESHA Science to provide reliable information to support Lake Ol Bolossat's designation as the 7th Ramsar Site in Kenya.

The Travel and Well-Being Connection

Travel can have a significant impact on well-being, encompassing various aspects of physical, mental, and emotional health.

Here are several ways in which travel and well-being are interconnected:

Bye Bye Stress
Traveling to new and exciting destinations can provide a break from the routine and help reduce stress. Exposure to different environments and cultures can have a positive impact on mental well-being. Travel often involves physical activities, such as walking, hiking, or exploring new places. Engaging in such activities can also reduce stress and contribute to improved physical health and fitness. Engaging in adventurous activities during travel can trigger the release of endorphins, contributing to a sense of excitement and happiness.

Take a Brain Break
Taking a break from the demands of daily life through travel can have positive effects on mental health. It allows individuals to relax, recharge, and gain perspective.

Many people choose to travel to destinations known for their serene environments, allowing for relaxation and rejuvenation. This can be particularly beneficial for those seeking a break from their daily responsibilities and busy thoughts. A change of scenery can also have a positive impact on mood and creativity. Exposure to new environments can stimulate the mind and provide a fresh perspective.

*Be Present in the World*
Exposure to different cultures and perspectives can broaden one’s understanding of the world, fostering a sense of open-mindedness and tolerance. This can contribute to overall well-being. Travel can encourage mindfulness as individuals immerse themselves in new experiences, focusing on the present moment rather than worrying about the past or future.

*Make Human Contact*
Traveling often involves spending time with friends or family, strengthening social bonds. Positive social interactions are linked to better mental and emotional well-being. Travel provides opportunities for learning, personal growth, and self-discovery. Engaging with others by trying new activities, learning about different cultures, and overcoming challenges can contribute to a sense of accomplishment and fulfillment.

*Go for It!*
Travel can offer numerous well-being benefits via varied outlets. Some may find relaxation in a beach resort, while others may seek adventure in the mountains. It’s important to choose travel experiences that align with personal preferences and well-being goals. Maintaining a balance between travel and routine life is crucial for sustained well-being.
