How big is Queen Elizabeth National Park? The park covers an area of 1,978 km2. The park stretches from the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains in the north, along the shores of Lake Edward. It stretches further to the remote Ishasha River in the south. It lies in the shadow of the legendary snow-capped Rwenzori mountains on the floor of the Great East African Rift Valley. The park has a variety of wetland habitats, including open waters and swampy shores of lakes Edward and George. It also has the 40-kilometer-long Kazinga channel that connects them and several freshwater and saline crater lakes. A minimum of ten (10) crater lakes lie within the park, including the highly accessible Katwe cluster in the north of the park.
