Everything is with a side effect however much we fail to condone the facts, yes industrialization is as well important to Uganda’s population but the destruction of what already brings a lot of foreign exchange to the country is too terrifying and unacceptable.

It’s not yet taken but the Members of Parliament we voted into power to represent our voices should come to our rescue and whoever moves a motion to proceed with the Dam construction in Murchison Fall National park should have a very strong defense and can be able to convince young guides like me and all other tourism personnel that our beauty will be modified and attract more tourists to this largest National park in Uganda.

NOTE: Tourism is increasingly becoming instrumental in socio-economic development of the country. With careful planning and commitment of resources, the tourism sector has a potential to greatly contribute to the strengthening of the fundamentals of the economy to enable the country harness her abundant opportunities.

Export earnings: from a balance of trade perspective, tourism is Uganda’s single largest export earner and generator of foreign exchange, at ud979m (sh3trillion) per annum.

Tourism is also a labor intensive industry that employs over 700,000 Ugandans both directly and indirectly. This means the industry is able to employ a high proportion of youth and women. Nowhere else in the economy can so many jobs be created so quickly and cost-effectively as in an expanding tourism sector?

Will the Dam to be created in our park employ a quarter of the above mentioned numbers or even create employment opportunity than what the tourism sector is doing?

Murchison Falls Dam must stay

Let's all start again

A GUIDE TO NATURE WALKS IN BWINDI IMPENETRABLE NP

There are six main nature trails in Buhoma for those who wish to explore the “impenetrable forest”, including waterfall walks, forest walks, primate encounters, mountain views and impressive birdlife.
Muyanga Waterfall Walk departs from Buhoma along the River Ivi-Nkuringo trail and culminates in the sensational sight of the falls plummeting 33 meters.
Rushura Hill Walk passes through one forest shared by two countries. On a clear day you can view Lakes Edward and George and the Rwenzori Mountains as well as the conical peaks of the Virunga Volcanoes.
Muzubijiro Loop is a 6km walk around a hill, where you will encounter primates and birds and enjoy a view of the Virungas.
The Ivi River Walk is 14km and takes around seven hours. The trail passes a place known as Mukempunu – meaning “a place of pigs” – where wild pigs can often be found.
The Buhoma-Nkuringo Trail takes three to four hours, and crosses right through the park, connecting the two villages and offering impressive views of the misty hillsides as you ascend the hills towards Nkuringo. You can leave your luggage with your driver, who will meet you at the other side. This trail can also be completed as part of the Ivi River Walk.

Copied @ Amos Wekesa
CAA wake up.
Food for thought.

Entebbe international airport, many flights landing in the afternoon and cars can’t get out of the airport. It is almost half a km jam to exit the airport. Imagine tourists/Ugandans arriving, one hour to get thru (health, immigration and collecting bags) and then another 40 minutes in jam to exit!!! Then imagine they have to drive to Kisoro 8 hrs. All government agencies and departments have to synchronize their operations to provide a consistent experience for traveling tourists and returning Ugandan travelers. But this seems not to be the case and people need to have performance indicators. For example Singapore airport has a KPI of 15 minutes from landing to exiting. Here in UGANDA what is our expected standard on which all players at the airport ie from handlers, health inspectors, immigration, security, customs, CAA are measured. Who monitors the service? Are we able to handle if we get 3 new big flights landing at Entebbe at peak time.

Where is the CAA chief when things are like this?
