Uganda Ebola Update ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฌ

We understand that some travelers may have questions after recent news about Ebola cases linked to eastern DRC and Uganda.

At the moment, travel in Uganda continues normally and safaris are operating as scheduled. National parks, lodges and tourism activities remain open, and daily life in most parts of the country continues as usual.

Most safaris in Uganda take place far away from crowded areas, with private guided travel through national parks, remote lodges and nature areas.

Uganda also has strong experience in handling public health situations, with active screening, monitoring and response systems already in place.

As always, we continue to monitor updates from WHO, CDC and local health authorities closely. If anything changes that could affect our travelers, we will communicate openly and directly.

If you have any questions about your upcoming trip or future travel plans, feel free to send us a message โค๏ธ

From gathering around a meal to sharing experiences with locals, itโ€™s these connections that make a journey truly meaningful.

Weโ€™d love to welcome you, introduce you to our community and let you experience the culture from the inside out!

A new chapter for wildlife in Uganda ๐Ÿฆ

After more than 40 years rhinos are on their way back to Kidepo Valley National Park, a place where they once roamed freely before disappearing in 1983.

A sanctuary has been completed, and soon the first rhinos will be relocated here from Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. This marks a major step in Ugandaโ€™s journey to restore its rhino population and rebuild what was once lost.

Today, Uganda is home to 59 rhinos - all under active protection - and thanks to ongoing conservation efforts that number continues to grow.

This is what conservation in action looks like:
protecting wildlife, involving communities and creating a future where nature and people thrive together.
Made possible by the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA).

๐Ÿ’š And this is also why responsible tourism matters!

Would you love to see rhinos return to the wild?

April is Ape Awareness Month ๐Ÿฆ (No joke!)

Did you know apes are more like us than we often realize?

They share up to ๐Ÿต๐Ÿด% ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ฟ ๐——๐—ก๐—”, have no tails and use their powerful shoulders to swing through forests. Something monkeys canโ€™t do.

But hereโ€™s the reality:
Many ape species, including gorillas, are critically endangered, with some populations declining by over 60% in just two decades.

The biggest threats?
Habitat loss from deforestation and the illegal wildlife trade. Where young apes are often taken from the wild.

Ape Awareness Month is a reminder that these animals are not attractions or pets. They are intelligent, social beings that belong in the wild๐Ÿ’š

๐Ÿฆ A lion that hunts like a leopard.

Jacob is an 11-year-old lion in Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda.
He lost his hind leg in a poacherโ€™s snareโ€ฆ and even an eye after a buffalo attack.

Researchers were sure he wouldnโ€™t survive.

But thermal drone footage revealed something nobody expected:
Jacob changed his entire hunting style.

Instead of chasing antelope like other lions, he now sets close-range ambushes in thick scrub โ€” pouncing like a leopard and even digging prey out.

Heโ€™s even hunting animals lions normally donโ€™t target:
200kg forest hogs!

This is one of the wildest lion stories weโ€™ve ever read and it happened right here in Uganda.

This review perfectly captures what we strive for ๐Ÿ’š

Our guest shared how traveling with Grassrootz felt carefully paced, deeply authentic and never rushed. Even in a country as dynamic as Uganda. From seamless planning and flexibility to wildlife encounters (gorillas, chimpanzees, lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos and over 150 bird species!), every detail was handled with intention.

A special mention went to our guide and driver ๐˜‰๐˜ฐ๐˜ฃ ๐˜”๐˜ข๐˜จ๐˜ฆ๐˜ป๐˜ช, whose calm presence, care and local knowledge played a key role in shaping their experience.
This is exactly how we believe travel should feel: personal, respectful and thoughtfully designed.

๐Ÿ”ฅFun Fact Friday: A Taste of Ugandan Tradition๐Ÿ”ฅ

Did you know that food cooked on firewood often tastes ๐˜ฃ๐˜ฆ๐˜ต๐˜ต๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ according to visitors, and that thereโ€™s a reason for it?

In many Ugandan villages, meals are still prepared on open fires or charcoal stoves. Cooking this way adds a natural smoky flavor, allows food to cook slowly and brings people together around the fire ๐Ÿฒโœจ

So itโ€™s not just about taste.
Cooking on firewood is deeply connected to tradition, storytelling and community life. The fire is where families gather, share their day and pass on knowledge from one generation to the next.

Traveling with Grassrootz means experiencing these moments. We like to not just let you taste the food, but understanding the culture behind it.
