This is the second largest man made lake in Africa found in Uganda after the one in Egypt.
It is locally referred to as "Akayanja ka Kabaka" meaning King's lake due to its history, as it's creation was spearheaded by Kabaka Mwanga, the then King of Buganda kingdom. It is said that The king had wanted it to go up to L.Victoria(Africa's largest fresh water lake) so as he could sail easily to his palace in Munyonyo.
