RAFIKI THE GIANT OF NKURINGO
Rafiki the giant mountain Gorilla was killed at the age of 25 years old the Male Gorilla who was hugely popular with the tourists and the Wildlife Authorities in Uganda.
Rafiki the Silverback Mountain Gorilla called Rafiki was killed in Bwindi Impenetrable National park the largest National park in Uganda and Africa inhabiting the endangered Mountain Gorillas, this happened after his body went missing on June 1 and his body was found the next day by the rangers.
Bwindi National park is a UNESCO world heritage site which is located at the border with Democratic Repu8blic of Congo, it’s on a 120 square Mile pitch of dense tropical forest a home to primates, Antelopes, elephants, wild pigs and other number of wildlife species.
The Uganda Wildlife Authority of recent they have arrested four people over the death of Rafiki, the Silverback of Nkuringo Gorilla group in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park which is part of the four sectors of the park including Rushaga, Buhoma, and Ruhijah.
Every year receives a big number of tourists mostly drawn to the 400 Mountain Gorillas which is roughly half of the world’s population.
The Uganda Wildlife Authority issued a state about the four men who led to the death of Rafiki.
The postmortem revealed that the Silverback sustained an injury by a sharp object which penetrated the upper part of the abdomen up to the internal organs.
One of the men was found in possession of wild hog meat, rope and wire snares and spears.
The detained man confessed to killing the Mountain Gorilla in self defense he adding that the Mountain Gorilla he Rafiki charged at him and a colleague as they were hunting.
Rafiki was the head of a gorilla family group in Nkuringo and his family called Nkuringo.
Poaching as become very rampant in Uganda’s game park and the Police has frequently announced seizures of illicitly acquired wildlife products including Rhino horns, Ivory, Pangolin and many more.
Note: Mountain Gorillas are the biggest foreign exchange earner for Uganda wildlife Authority contributing up to 60% of the revenue.
Uganda Mountain Gorillas are only inhabited in two National parks Bwindi Impenetrable National park and Mgahinga National park.
Mgahinga National park is part of Virunga which is shared by Rwanda, DR Cong and Uganda.
