Mountain gorilla trekking can be both exciting especially when it comes to that moment of meeting these giants but things can take a twist when the trekking gets longer than expected, poor terrain and weather changes.
This time round, our client trekked the Bikingi Group in Rushaga Sector – Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. This gorilla family of a lead Silverback, adult females, juveniles and a baby gorilla. The hike was a bit physically challenging as the gorillas had moved up hill in search for fresh feeding areas. It took about 4 hours to get to them, spent an hour observing and learning more about their behavior and more 3 hours hiking back to the park headquarters.
The mountain gorilla duration varies and is highly dependent on the movement of the gorillas. It’s important to hire a porter to help you navigate through some of the challenging trails and carry your backpack if you have some gear needed for the hike and overall gorilla trekking experience. A packed lunch or snack is advisable as you are not sure when you will return from the forested mountains. Rain gear, a walking stick and sturdy hiking shoes are also very much recommended.
