Meet the "Ecosystem Engineers" of the African Savannah.
while they might look like heavy cattle from afar, the African cape buffalo is one of the most powerful, intelligent, and fierce member's of the legendary Big five. They play a vital role in keeping Uganda's grassland healthy, clearing the way for smaller grazers to thrive.
But here's a mind-blowing fact you might not know: Buffalo herds are highly democratic! When deciding which way to travel, adult females will stand up, stare in a specific direction, and lie back down. The herd ultimately moves in the direction that gets the most "votes"!
Where are the best places to spot them with us?
📸Murchison falls national park: Watch massive herds cooling off along the banks of the mighty Nile during our boat safari.
📸Queen Elizabeth national park: Catch them grazing against the stunning backdrop of the Rwenzori Mountains or wallowing in the mud along the kazinga channel.
where they are forming a protective wall around their calves or hanging out with their early-warming security guards (the oxpecker birds!), seeing a herd of hundreds of buffalo move together is a sight you will never forget.
